After a lengthy and intense criminal investigation, Illinois law enforcement officials have arrested and charged a Joliet businessman for selling cocaine and heroin. Police claim that the man conducted drug sales right off of his store’s shelves.
Recently, a police informant entered the man’s store and allegedly purchased a kilogram of cocaine for about $30,000. The informant came into play after Will County authorities called in help from the FBI to bolster their efforts and investigate more aggressively.
Reports indicate that the police seized multiple kilograms of heroin, in addition to three kilograms of cocaine. Police assert that was one of the most active drug distributors in the area. The amount of drugs seized at the scene and the fact that the store is near a school could cause prosecutors to ramp up the charges and seek maximum sentences.
The man’s store was a centerpiece of the local community for quite some time, as it is located near a heavily-traveled intersection. Local residents would visit the store to buy food or send money to loved ones in other parts of world.
Despite the fact that the man’s store is frequented by local community members, police have been after the accused man for many years. Due to the length and scale of the law enforcement investigation, there is a chance that police made mistakes along the way. This is why it will be especially important for the man and his defense team to be vigilant. A thorough look into the veracity and validity of the evidence procured by police is essential to make sure the business owner receives a fair trial.
